Railroad Trains for the Soul: Maryland Commuter Trains

Here's the final transitional commuter rail paint scheme for now. This is what early public commuter rail services originally looked like when they were becoming subsidized by the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT). The paint scheme had black, white, and orange stripes with the MDOT logos. It was applied to a small fleet of EMD F9 diesels rebuilt by Morrison Knudsen. The MDOT livery was also seen on some of the Budd Rail Diesel Car (RDC) units and some ordinary passenger coaches. Eventually, this paint scheme was changed into the blue and orange stripes of today's MARC train system. MARC appears to stand for Maryland Area Rail/Regional Commuter. I actually live in Maryland, which is why I declare the MDOT scheme the final one for all the other early public rail transit liveries.
