Railroad Trains for the Soul: EMDX No. 92 (Modified)

This is another photo of the EMD SD89MAC locomotive No. 92 but with its engine and radiator compartments that were completely modified with a full-width carbody, giving an unusual appearance like a semi-cowl unit. As mentioned earlier, No. 92 has been reused for testing the 4,700-horsepower Caterpillar C175-20 diesel engine. It’s a pity that the SD89MAC model never received any interest from railroads, although the 265H prime mover could have been the successor to the 710G engine that powers the SD70 series of freight locomotives. We don’t know when No. 92 will be scrapped in the future, but at least it has been fairly useful as a Tier 4 testbed for the EMD F125 passenger locomotive. By the way, here are a couple of clickable sources below for further reading about the one-of-a-kind SD89MAC.
