Railroad Trains for the Soul: Canadian National Heritage Units
So proud of Canadian National for introducing some of its locomotives in the so-called heritage schemes! It is perhaps the fourth Class I railroad to unveil fully painted diesels representing the memories of its predecessors. First, Union Pacific began painting six Electro-Motive SD70ACe units in 2005; seven years later, Norfolk Southern debuted 20 locomotives for its 30th anniversary (10 SD70ACe's and 10 General Electric ES44AC's); finally, Canadian Pacific introduced 10 rebuilt EMD SD70ACU's in the railroad's old-fashioned paint scheme.
And now, Canadian National painted five locomotives to commemorate 25 years since its privatization from the Canadian government. Interestingly, CN designed a special logo and applied it on some of the GE DASH 8-40C units as part of the 15th anniversary in 2010. From left to right in this photo are the following CN heritage units: British Columbia Railway (GE ET44AC No. 3115), Grand Trunk (EMD SD70M-2 No. 8952), Canadian National (EMD SD70M-2 No. 8898), Illinois Central (GE ET44AC No. 3008), Wisconsin Central (GE ET44AC No. 3069), and Elgin, Joliet & Eastern (GE ET44AC No. 3023). How awesome!
