My College Professor's Trains
This is the whole postwar Lionel O gauge train set that my former college professor donated to me on the second weekend of this month. The following items are listed immediately below:
- No. 675 2-6-2 steam locomotive with No. 2466WX tender (two photos)
- No. 2357 Southern Pacific type caboose
- No. 2458 Pennsylvania automobile box car
- No. 3456 Norfolk & Western operating hopper car
- No. 3459 automatic dump car with barrels
- No. 6456 Lehigh Valley hopper car
- No. 6656 stock car
- No. 6462 New York Central gondola car
Lionel O gauge accessories include a lot of straight and curved tubular track, the No. 020 90-degree crossing, a pair of No. 042 manual switches, the UCS remote control track set, the No. 394 rotary beacon tower (with no beacon), the CTC lockon track clip, and the 190-watt TRAINmaster KW transformer (two photos). The only other items that are not classified as Lionel are several Plasticville buildings that appear to be disassembled.
Initially, I thought the 675 steam engine was a duplicate of the one that I inherited from my uncle a few years ago. However, I found out that his version was built around 1952 and has a 2-6-4 wheel arrangement along with a different tender numbered 2046W. The other version was built in 1947 and has the No. 2466WX tender. As of this blog post, the Lehigh Valley hopper and the New York Central gondola have been put up for sale on my eBay store, but there are some other pieces of rolling stock that may probably stay with my train collection. I’m not quite sure about selling any of the accessories or the track this time around but I’ll think about it soon.
All the photos were originally taken by my professor’s sister. Thanks to her for the train set she gave away! Extra special thanks to the professor for telling me about the train and for offering it at no charge!
