Gold Medal of Horsepower - Baldwin DR-12-8-1500/2 “Centipede”
Earning the Gold Medal of Horsepower is the DR-12-8-1500/2 “Centipede” (or DR-12-8-3000 with respect to its total output). The Baldwin prototype number 6000 would also be a gold winner since it was actually built as a 3,000-hp locomotive equipped with four diesel engines. Perhaps it would earn a platinum medal should it ever become a true 6,000-hp unit with eight of them as originally intended.
