Engines of Amtrak by AmtrakGuy365 - GE Diesels
This is the second blog post sharing more Engines of Amtrak videos from AmtrakGuy365. Previously, you’ve already seen the videos covering EMD diesel locomotives built for the passenger agency. And now, let’s move on to the ones built by General Electric. Amtrak ordered three different types of GE diesels: the P30CH (nicknamed “Pooch”), the railroad’s first diesel-powered fleet from that builder as well as the first to be equipped with electrical head-end power; the utilitarian DASH 8-32BWH (or P32-8BWH); and the successfully reliable GENESIS series, which is technically divided into three separate models while having the same identical monocoque body. The GENESIS types include the P40DC (originally DASH 8-40BP or AMD-103), P42DC, and the P32AC-DM.
Please note that some of the Engines of Amtrak videos are in a rather different format. The P30CH video is in the same format as in the EMD videos shared earlier, but the other two appear to be older versions. For that reason, AmtrakGuy365 may probably reupload some of these videos in a newer version to replace the existing ones and to prevent any more copyright infringement. Regardless, you can expect lots of interesting facts about these GE locomotives, whether successful or not, that have been significant to the history of Amtrak.
The next and final blog post will feature videos that cover electrics and train sets, including the gas turbine-powered Turboliner, built by various manufacturers.
