Engines of Amtrak by AmtrakGuy365 - EMD Diesels

In continuing the commemoration of Amtrak’s 50th anniversary, let’s focus on the types of locomotives that have carried passengers for nearly a half-century. LaRosa’s Trains is proud to share the “Engines of Amtrak” video series produced by a YouTube channel named AmtrakGuy365. We’ll begin with the diesel-electrics built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division from the infamous SDP40F (the very first class of units purchased new in 1973) to the modern, streamlined F59PHI (the last EMD passenger model for Amtrak). Also included is the rare experimental pair of F69PHAC diesels, which were the first units newly built with an alternating current traction system. It should be noted that the inherited pre-Amtrak locomotives such as the E-units, F-units, and GG1’s are not included, although they are briefly mentioned on a limited basis. While some parts of each video from AmtrakGuy365 are a little bit bizarre, these videos are really well informative and very fun to watch. Highly recommended!

The next blog post will feature videos that cover diesels built by General Electric.
