Engines of Amtrak by AmtrakGuy365 - Electrics & Train Sets
Here is the last blog post presenting the Engines of Amtrak series by AmtrakGuy365. We’ll focus today on electrics and other non-diesel trains used by the 50-year-old railroad. There are four types of conventional electric locomotives including the GE E60, the EMD AEM-7, the Bombardier-Alstom HHP-8, and the Siemens ACS-64. Three different multiple-unit train sets are also covered. The first is the Budd Metroliner, which was an early attempt at high-speed rail in America as well as the basis for the cylindrical Amfleet coaches. The next is a gas-turbine fleet called the Turboliner, built by ANF and Rohr Industries. Lastly, the successful Acela Express high-speed trains were manufactured by a consortium between Bombardier and Alstom.
Watching these videos is an incredible way to celebrate the heritage of our important passenger rail network in the United States. Whether diesel or electric, all the types of Amtrak locomotives and rolling stock will undoubtedly be remembered by their fans. We hope you’re enjoying the history of motive power that has been and always will be crucial to the survival of the National Railroad Passenger Corporation since 1971.
