Railroad Trains for the Soul: Diesel Power on the Santa Fe
Charles Smiley Video presents an incredible mix of first and second generation diesel locomotives on the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. The stars of the show are the so-called "Warbonnet" diesels painted in the famous red and silver scheme that was originally intended for passenger services in this railroad line. Another paint scheme was colored blue and yellow for freight trains.
The Warbonnet passenger diesels included in this video are the streamlined cab units such as the EMD F units and ALCO PA's as well as the more modern cowl units like the EMD FP45's and GE U30CG "U-boats". Among the blue/yellow freight diesels featured are the EMD General Purpose (GP) and Special Duty (SD) hood units, ALCO roadswitchers (RS), and even the EMD F45 cowls.
Also included are some unusual locomotives painted in a red, yellow, and black scheme nicknamed "Kodachrome" as part of the short-lived merger with the Southern Pacific Railroad. Taking place between the mid-1960’s and 80’s, Diesel Power on the Santa Fe is a beautifully colorful video covering both freight and passenger trains, especially these red/silver Warbonnet diesels that carried people until the birth of Amtrak in 1971.
