Railroad Trains for the Soul: EMD Locomotives

Welcome to the first episode of Railroad Trains for the Soul! Today's topic covers Electro-Motive (EMD) diesel locomotives. There are two spectacular promotional videos created by General Motors, which acquired the Electro-Motive Corporation in 1930. The first video includes some of the most famous Winton-engined articulated streamliners, like the Union Pacific M-10000 and the Burlington Zephyr, as well as some early individual E units and diesel switchers during the 30's. Also included are some of the gasoline-engined motor cars that were essentially self-propelled passenger coaches.

The second video dates from the late 1990's or early 2000's and features EMD locomotives representing every generation from the custom-built, Winton-engined motor cars and streamliners to the gigantic, single-engined, 265H-powered SD90MAC freight diesels. This was before Caterpillar acquired the builder in 2010 and opened the new locomotive factory in Muncie, Indiana. These promotional videos are fantastic for fans of diesel locomotives built by Electro-Motive since 1922.
