Brian's Day Out With Thomas

Last weekend was a special event I had been heavily longing for: The Day Out With Thomas! It was located at the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum, so we wanted to visit while the event lasted. For the uninitiated, the main attraction was to take a 25-minute ride on the coaches pulled by Thomas the Tank Engine. We chose to purchase tickets online via TicketWeb as early as possible for a 4:45 PM ride. In order to board the train on time, the recommendation was to arrive at the museum one hour prior to the reserved departure time. However, it turned out that we were running very late, and when we arrived, it was about a minute or two just before the train departed. We thought we nearly missed it. That was close! While our delayed trip to the museum was initially stressful, we were very lucky that we boarded the train "Right on Time!"

As we boarded, one of the coaches was completely vacant while the others were full of very young children and their parents/relatives. We sat in the former for our comfort. The train actually included a supporting diesel locomotive at one end and, of course, Thomas at the other. The diesel led the consist when departed and continued as far as the confines of the museum, then Thomas led it for its return trip. There were many additional activities that children will enjoy in the Day Out With Thomas. Just after this splendid ride, it was picture time for guests interested in being in front of the blue tank engine. There was also a meet with Sir Topham Hatt, the controller of the railway on the Island of Sodor.

For a while before closing, I enjoyed talking with parents of Thomas fans and explained how much I love this incredible TV show ever since I was a kid. It immediately reminded me of watching a commemorative Day Out With Thomas video that was released in 1999 to celebrate 10 years of the show's airing in the United States. 2019 would mark 30 years! It should be noted that the year 2020 will mark 75 years since the publishing of the first Railway Series book written by the Rev. W. Awdry. For that reason, I definitely wanted to come back next year for another (hopefully a better) Day Out With Thomas. It was fun getting my first experience with this brilliant event at the B&O Railroad Museum, and it felt like a dream come true!
