YouTube Video Update - A Couple of Helper Engines Pushing a CSX Coal Train
I was at Engine House Hobbies in Gaithersburg, MD to pick up two of my old prewar trains that had been fixed there. While I was there, I saw a long, heavy CSX coal train passing through the crossing. I didn't shoot footage on the entire train, but I noticed a couple of helper engines at the back, including the newest model in the CSX diesel fleet. The newest model is the General Electric Tier 4 Evolution Series ET44AC, designated to CSX as an ET44AH. Cab number 3350 is the GE ET44AH while cab number 4819 is an EMD SD70MAC. I really love the ET44 in this helper arrangement. It meets the EPA's Tier 4 emission standards, which became effective in January 2015. Note the large radiator section of the ET44. This is the first GE Tier 4 Evolution locomotive I've ever caught on camera. I was so excited to see one of the newest CSX locomotives in action that I wanted to film the helpers. Go Tier 4 locos! Go 4 pushing and pulling! This ET44 is such a big gopher!
