Yesterday, we just picked up the new MTH RailKing Amtrak Genesis Diesel Engine from the train store, but we also bought a new MTH transformer for my layout. This is a 100-watt power supply. From the past few years since I first built my layout, I originally used a cheap 50-watt transformer that came from my MTH starter set. But when I got the 4 matching illuminated passenger cars for the Genesis two months ago, I was concerned about the amount of electrical current they can pull. So I did a little renovation on my layout by replacing the 50-watt transformer with this new power supply to provide much safer operation with the passenger cars. With the help of this transformer, I was very happy with all the action as I test-ran both the Genesis and the passenger cars. Stay tuned for the video on the Genesis coming soon.
